Gli ultimi dubbi attorno agli otto uomini che comporranno la formazione della Cannondale Pro Cycling per la Milano-Sanremo, in programma domenica 17 marzo, sono stati sciolti.
Il campione slovacco Peter Sagan, quarto nel 2012 e reduce da due vittorie di tappa alla Tirreno-Adriatico, sarà la punta di diamante della squadra, con Moreno Moser, all’esordio nella Classicissima, ed Elia Viviani quali prime alternative. Damiano Caruso, Maciej Bodnar, Alessandro De Marchi, Kristijan Koren e Paolo Longo Borghini svolgeranno il fondamentale compito di supporto lungo i 298 km del percorso. Il DS Mario Scirea siederà in ammiraglia, coadiuvato dal team manager Roberto Amadio e dal DS Alberto Volpi. “Abbiamo scelto gli uomini più in condizione” ha spiegato Scirea “e più adatti al lavoro che servirà in corsa. Siamo consapevoli che un corridore come Sagan ci permette di ambire al massimo risultato, ma lo stesso pensiero l’hanno i nostri avversari. Avremo gli occhi puntati addosso e dovremo essere innanzitutto compatti come squadra. La ‘Sanremo’ è una corsa dura e molto tattica. Dovremo essere pronti ad affrontare molte variabili e bravi a gestirle. Insomma, una sfida elettrizzante e difficilissima”.
Heading into the first Classic of the season, Milan-Sanremo (March 17) Cannondale Pro Cycling defined the list of the eight riders that will attend the race.
Slovak champion Peter Sagan, 4th in 2012 and one of the key riders at Tirreno-Adritiaco with two stage wins, will be the definitive leader of the team. Moreno Moser, debuting at the ‘Classicissima’, and Elia Viviani should also be considered strong options. Damiano Caruso, Maciej Bodnar, Alessandro De Marchi, Kristijan Koren and Paolo Longo Borghini will perform important supporting roles along the 298 km of the route. Directeur Sportif Mario Scirea will lead the riders on the team car, helped by Team Manager Roberto Amadio and Directeur Sportif Alberto Volpi.
“We chose the riders with the best form,” explained Scirea. “And also chose those more suited for the role to play during the race. Of course we know that a rider like Sagan allows us to aim for top results, but our contenders have the same thought. Lots of attention will be focused on us: first of all, we have to be united as team. The ‘Sanremo’ is a hard and really tactical race. We have to be ready to face many variables and be able to manage them. In other words, it will be an exciting and really hard challenge.”
